Doctors and Insurance companies regularly fail women, how is this new or news?
-

-
BC people (sane men, of which there appear to be a few more than in the past) are finally listening?
-
That's only half of it, I hope more women are waking up too

-
Funny. It seems many women would completely fall apart if they were aware of how little freedom they have.

... after forced sterilizations were discovered to have happened to poor, "retarded" & black women during the 20th century, I would imagine a doctor would not want to "sterilize" a healthy woman today ... fallopian tube ligation ("tying") would accomplish the same outcome ...
-
1. Tubal ligation is sterilization. 2. You’re missing the part about consent; forced sterilization is supposed to be illegal - but people can still request the procedure of their own free will.
-
... understood, Princess37 ... but sterilization is irreversible, and a woman's decision to do so may have been made under duress ... and a court may find that is the case ... tubal ligation can be reversed ...
@vanofmars -
Ya know what else is irreversible & may be decided under duress? Parenthood.
-
... when it comes to irreversible parenthood "decisions" ... the courts tend to invoke the Pottery Barn Rule ... "you break it ... you pay for it" ...
-
Did you even read the article? “They should not fear malpractice lawsuits brought by patients who change their minds, as long as the requirements for informed consent were met.”

Get a new doctor?...
-
Or, you know, the doctor could respect female bodily autonomy..
-
That's a foreign concept to men - whether it's understanding that women govern their own bodies or respecting boundaries by not raping them. It's like rocket science, apparently.
-
Whoa. How did we get here? If you were searching for a particular good or service, and 1 business wouldn't sell it to you, you would go somewhere they would. This isn't different. It's the equivalent of a toddler throwing a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted.
-
How many fucking doctors do you expect women to go through? This is a medical procedure like any other and shouldn't be this impossible to access. Then again, you're just a fucking male wtf do you know.

Why did her Doctor refuse to get sterilized ? Our point of view to that refusal might be interesting if the main concerns told us the history.
-
Read the article. Reasons—medical ones—were not deemed sufficient, i.e. endometriosis. Which ironically can cause infertility on its own though. Bottom line—a woman should be able to make these decisions on her own.

Interestingly enough, I had a reverse experience, with anger and fury the outcome. OB wanted to tie my tubes after my 2nd child and was pretty darn disgusted when I refused his "wise" offer. MY BODY. MY DECISION, DUDE!
-
Not enough information... Why did he want to tie your tubes? If it was for a real health concern, it would be understandable for him to not like you taking his advice.
-
Nope. He thought two children was "enough" for me. He's not my daddy or my baby's daddy. So, none of his business. Never on welfare, so not his money. WTH business of his is it HOW many children I have?
-
Hehe... As if my daddy would have been foolish enough to express an opinion... LOL
