Supreme Court justices seemed troubled by the government’s ability to acquire troves of digital data without a warranthttp://nyti.ms/2Ak1ahz

Well, don’t use your digital media to break the law. It’s not brain surgery! Even better, just don’t break the law. Be cool.

Well it is troubling that the government has that power. If this data was stored in paper form they would definitely need a warrant.

I think expecting nobody to notice that you are traveling, especially while carrying a GPS, is unreasonable expectations of privacy. Continuing to give money to a company that blatantly states they keep this information and demanding it be restricted is silly.

But wouldn't this data be the private property of these companies? Regardless of what they think about giving data to the government, allowing the gov to access it without a warrant sets a precedent.

Not really. Lots of company's collect information for studying and it's in the terms. Example: Almost any app that asks for GPS. To be clear tho, they SC should look at all information sources -gps, search data and histories- seperately to keep one instance from justifyn all.

I'm not quite sure I understand. "Lots of company's collect information for studying and it's in the terms." Is data they collect not theirs? Is it strangely defined something or other existing outside of property laws owned by nobody?

OK. Where, after you you agree to let them track and keep information, do they say that this information will never be given to law enforcement if requested to solve/prove a crime? No where... Most companies clearly state they DO provide it.

I see, it's voluntary on the part of the companies.
