If he was advised, saying "Rohyngia" would actually put the ppl at risk by the military and endanger the Rohyngia, I understand why he wouldn't mention name. When it comes to oppression, strategy and forethought is a must! I agree w/the Pope.

I have Muslim friends from Myanmar who explained that his speaking specifically about the Rohingya could inflame the situation and endanger them at this crucial time. It’s a very complicated situation. God Bless Pope Francis 🙏 God Bless Myanmar & the Rohingya 🙏

I'm sure he did what he thought was best. You can't call him cowardly - after all, he went there. And certainly no one thinks he is indifferent to genocide

He has to walk a very fine line there. It’s for the same reasons AS Suu-Kyi won’t call the Rohingya by name. My friends explained it all to me. Very complicated. I certainly don’t think it’s safe for them to return to Myanmar any time soon. 😆

My friends explained that above all else she is a pragmatist. The military are still very much in charge & the hatred & oppression of the Rohingya goes back centuries. She has to weigh this against the military turning against her. Not defending her, just saying it’s complex.

I don’t think any other considerations outweigh what was done to those people. If the military is in charge, she should resign and become an activist again.

I will ask my friends why they think she doesn’t do so, but I imagine the answer is she’d have to leave the country, which surely wouldn’t be easy for her. One Burmese friend recommended a YouTube video about all this - I’ll ask for the title & let you know.

but knowing Myanmar like I do ... I think he saved a ton of lives! There is smartness in not angering them because the WORLD KNOWS WHY HE WAS THERE! By the way, why don't you report on @MyanmarTribunal that found Mynmr. gov., military and ASSK guilty of #RohingyaGenocide 3/7/17?
