Where’s the story? Why is this news?
-
Its not news its an anecdotally contrived piece. They base a "story" on a fictional "reader" and how that reader has a child who is hyper conscious of their identity and how that identity needs constant reinforcement.
-
Five year old children are just as likely to identify with robots and vehicles with faces and even grown up characters. Racial identity is usually reinforced by family & peer groups. It limits the child's development by placing them in a box that they aren't to venture forth from
-
Children that young don't identify themselves by their ethnicity unless coached to because it limits their imagination. They see themselves as pure potential. They aren't awed by the ordinary and its of less interest than the extraordinary.

Yeah, because all Latinos are essentially the same thing. From Tijuana to Tierra del fuego...one whitewashed, homogeneous identity

Congratulations for Pixar for this wonderful animated movie. My daughters loved it and loved the characters, however my 5 year one was scared! Me and a man next to me we’re sweeping our tears in the end:)
