It is a commemoration of “comfort women,” who were detained and raped by Japanese soldiers before and during WWIIhttp://nyti.ms/2Bm6scF

The commemoration intent might have come from a good place, but sadly it's a painful reminder of violence against these #women. See it from their #perspective. #empathy

And it’s most offensive of all to pretend that it never happened, which is the official position of the Japanese government.

That makes sense, it's gaslighting history which would be deeply hurtful. #accountability

What is Japan angry about? That the history is fake? That history should be forgotten? That we ought to also build a statue of Japanese soldiers?

I don’t deny the history you talk about, but I think it’s strange that they build the statue in the United States. They should protest against Japan in the countries they are from or in Japan because it’s NOT a part of American history.

because the war crimes are all human tragogy, not of a country and japan will never acknowlede its war crimes...

Yes, I feel strange that Japan will keep denying the history while I live there. It should have apologized to them for the crimes just after the war was over. So shameful

A statue commemorating the Jews killed by German Nazis wouldn't be protested against by Germans. What's with these Japanese politicians not wanting anyone to see the victims?

The Japanese have never come to terms with their war crimes, which in itself is very disturbing. And it’s one of the reasons why they are still occupied.

Don’t get me wrong, I like their culture and have great friends from there, but those who keep talking about the same shit should build the same statue for Vietnamese girls who got raped by Koreans too. Stop victimizing yourselves already, move tf on
