There is an increasingly bitter argument brewing over the seemingly mundane task of keeping accurate lists of U.S. votershttp://nyti.ms/2jXcagH

This is crazy. Make voting registration automatic when you turn 18. It shouldn't even be an issue. Other countries do it this way, and they don't have the "voter fraud" issues that the US seems to always fear. Death certificate means automatic removal from the registry.

Republicans don’t want that system because it makes it more difficult for them to cheat.

Not sure I want to blame it on any party, although I DO understand what you are saying and agree to a certain degree.... we need change, though, including changing gerrymandering. It'll never be fair representation until that is done!

Look, I understand not wanting to demonize one side, but the facts are that it’s always republicans who try to curb access to voting. They’re also the ones big on gerrymandering. That’s just a fact.

I don't understand why this is such a complicated process. All Americans are guaranteed right to vote & should have proper access. KISS

The problem is that republicans in office make the rules. Google Kris Kobach. He’s trying to restrict voting nationwide.

It's quite simple - if you are in the US legally and have the right to vote - no one should be trying to take that away or make it hard for you to exercise that right.

But they do. My hubby became a citizen in the 70s. During a pending divorce, his ex chucked some boxes of his stuff, incl naturalization. Took 10 YEARS, repeated requests, from when 1st requested for govt to send replacement naturalization.

The right to vote is often not the problem, as much as is access to the specific data now being demanded. In WI, elderly not born in hospitals, or who adopted use of a different name decades ago, had great difficulty for 1st time, after having always voted.

Dear America, your voting system is screwed up. We don’t have so many arguments about who can vote in Canada, because just about anybody can! If your. It on the list you show up with ID and/or a utility bill and you can vote. Yes, we have the occasional skirmish about voter ID...

But generally it’s about the homeless or other people who struggle to get appropriate ID. If you’re out of jail, you vote. If you moved last year you vote, you don’t identify with a political party and there’s no exit polling. Paper ballots! Neat eh!

This is where you cannot trust republicans. So many of them believe in business ethics not public service ethics.
