First, it’s H-1B, not H1-B. Second, about 25% of our doctors were or will use this visa category. Oddly, they disproportionately serve in underserved areas in states that voted for Trump. USCIS is giving these applicants lots of problems as well.

@ValleyPatriot "If I am not qualified to stay in the United States, then who is?" - #AMERICANS - The #H1B serve crony capitalistic interest, and BOTH Party's LOVE crony capitalism. Cheap disposable labor in return for Americans to lose their jobs. Have a nice trip back to China

Amazing how some people here think that someone with a degree from Oxford and Stanford isn't good enough for their country, but they gave their country's most prestigious job to someone who speaks like a 12 year old

Could we get rid of the Trumps? I'm sure they don't have the necessary skills. Daddy Trump can barely read and certainly can't write a speech that makes much sense.

Sounds to me like they can't get jobs everyone wants even though your rag always runs with the opinion that they only take jobs Americans don't want. When we are at 100% employment for Americans then give it to whoever is most qualified.

Seeing racist replies to this Op-Ed is disheartening to those of us in fields that require peers with a level of education the author has.

You and your Stanford classmates are .001 percent of the immigrant community, most are a drain on the countries recources, and you know it.

H-1B visas are for exactly that, the highly educated and skilled. I.E. doctors lawyers engineer... These are exactly what they are shutting out and it is draining our resources by NOT letting them stay. 25% of our dr.s are H-1B.

PS. Immigrants contribute more than they take... https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/18/us/politics/refugees-revenue-cost-report-trump.html?_r=0 … $63,000,000,000 more revenue than amount spent on them.... trump and the GOP don't want you to know that. Illegals also break the law less often.https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/06/us/politics/undocumented-illegal-immigrants.html …

They do not contribute more than they take, that is a lie and you cannot find that info anywhere. They are mostly low income people that rely on government services, they cost the country billions of dollars. https://fairus.org/issue/publications-resources/fiscal-burden-illegal-immigration-united-states-taxpayers …

Immigrants, not just illegals. PS this is about H-1B visas. They are highly educated and highly skilled. 25% of all US doctors are on H-1B visas. This is a stupid thing for trump to attack and shows his xenophobia.

I havent seen any data backing up a decline in H1-B visas. All I am reading is anecdotal evidence provided by a guy that got denied. If there are only so many spots and a large number of requests, some people are going to be left out.

of course this is anecdotal, it is an opinion piece. Lowering the H1B by even one less person is stupid. Cancelling the expediting earlier this year was the first step. I work in tech and have seen what they are doing already. Too early for numbers.
