the amount of negative replies about this article is stunning.. Detroit and it’s people deserve mad respect for yanking the city out of the mess it was in. We should all be rooting for cities across America, like Detroit, who are making adjustments and coming back stronger!

Detroit. Detroit is a city whose name is used as a stand alone for poverty, crime, suffering, and failed Democrat policy. Please.

I was there in April. Oh, and yesterday. You do not know what you're talking about.

Well, that depends on what you find acceptable. I used to live on the south side of Chicago and found it acceptable until I lived and traveled to many other places. Detroit has a few areas that are nice. Never want to live there. Ever.

Not even a little bit. I'm not here for the whitewashing of Detroit.

I didn't see it as whitewashing personally. I thought it was a nice feature that highlighted what Detroit residents are doing to aide their community. Especially when she pointed out that city services have failed Detroiters for so long.

Perhaps I'm a little more cynical, but I'm not a fan of anything that paints someone like Dan Gilbert in a positive light.

Ah that's a good point. I do agree with you on Gilbert for the most past. I don't think he's a bad guy, but people shouldn't lie to themselves: He's not helping anybody outside of downtown, and only a few thousand of Detroit's 600,000 residents live in that small area.

I’m pretty sure Dan Gilbert is a bad guy. On the other hand, it’s nice to see Jason Hall and Slow Roll get some love.

As someone who's mom does slow roll, I must agree. My objection to articles like this is that they paint capitalism as good for Detroiters (it's not) and give cover for slumlords like Gilbert.

If you have not visited the city within the last year you should not disparage the comeback of the ‘jewel on the river.’ Come visit in the summer...museums and lots of family activities. Belle Isle, Greenfield Village, the Detroit Zoo and the Woodward Dream Cruise.
