Go read the statute. They consider it a crime against the business and the state in China. Minimum prison sentence is 3 years and can include a fine or additional time. It is a big deal in China. Go read the statute if you don’t believe me. It is readily available on line.

Of course he should have, but he shouldn't boast about it or act like aiding US citizens is going above and beyond for him. The US president.

Even so, speculation as to why he did it is completely different than what he says about it afterwards. If he had said nothing he'd still be criticized for doing it to get the attention

🍎& 🍊💁💁 It's time to move on. The GOP is trying to cut Healthcare by 4 billion dollars for people making 50K or less. Medicaid is going to be a cut for our most vulnerable population and we're still talking about athletes who are already free? Priorities..

Chinese authorities said "facing", they were not sentenced. Experts, people who study and write about Chinese practice (especial with foreign celbs) most likely realized that was a threat and not going to happen. If it had been locals, maybe.

Speculation, and crap! The penalty for shoplifting in Beijing is 5 to 10 years in prison. Many jailed for less.

As we all know the rich and celebrities rarely pay the same price as the common folk. Its no different in China, I am sure the experts new this from past experience and knowledge of Chinese culture and experience living there.
