        What about kids going to school? I know lots of kids are pressured by perfect attendance and such to go to school every day, but that is a huge vector for sicknesses to spread to parents.

        It's very simple. If you work for a company which gives you so many sick days a year, which is what mine did, the policy is pretty well the same. Use 'em or lose 'em! You can't accumulate them. Don't be selfish, don't be "macho" & don't infect others!
