Why does it matter whether he is grateful? The kids deserve some punishment but not to rot in a Chinese prison for years. Do the right thing because it is right not to have others thank you.

I'm sorry. I think Trump is a thoroughly despicable human being. But this father is a twit if he really did minimize the gravity of what his son did. That kid shoplifted on foreign soil, while essentially representing the US. It's not a minor thing.

It is equally despicable to have Trump represent the U.S. but I digress. What those athletes did was wrong, but to have a so called president say he should have left them in jail is contemptible.

Agreed. That's why I prefaced my comment with the statement that Trump is a dick. How he ever got elected is beyond my comprehension.

It's not like you can expect a president to care about his citizens if their parents aren't going to give him kudos.

That's how being a father works. Protect your child first, ask questions later.

okay but he did not protect his child, he bashed the President. And without any good reason really, just for sport.

That's fair enough. But in fairness it's a sport the president gleefully takes part in. :)

In terms of parenting, I think Lavar Ball and Donald Trump both belong the the Hall of Shame: Ball's sons' behavior in China and Trump Jr.'s lies. As a father, Ball should have come out strongly and openly to denounce the misdeeds of his sons. He has failed! Trump as well.

The most likely scenario for this story is the Chinese leader leaning into trump and said .. not to worry I will release those boys in a few days .. trump realized a familiar path of fake heroics and took it. This fit perfectly with Dotard's natural lying to promote himself

Trump won the presidency by tweeting outrageous nonsense and getting everyone to react. He "Trump'd" the entire world. Now LaVar Ball is Trumping him and he's too stupid to know it.
