There’s nothing wrong with it. People have been indoctrinated to think that the USA has a pristine and unblemished history. When in all reality, this country’s very foundation was established on massive genocide and slavery. Appreciate the history in full context.

The door swings both ways. If you haven’t realized yet, people won’t get over it. Maybe you should leave before you get replaced.

Accidental transmission of disease not the same as genocide. Please get the basic history correct before going into op-eds about it

Yes. Columbus, Europeans in general, knew about infectious diseases and how they spread

Early-modern Europeans understood infectious diseases like smallpox? News to me. How do you know that?

What mostly Europeans did in the entire new world from the Americas to Australia through killing, stealing, usurping of land, slavery & the genocide of indigenous populations is the greatest Holocaust in history of mankind; and not only it is not acknowledged, it is glorified.

Cause it's about 53 Pilgrims coming together with 90 Indians to celebrate a bountiful harvest. Which would be about as far opposite of genocide as one can be.

While the sitting down portion probably did not happen, a treaty between the wampanoag and the pilgrims did happen. The pilgrims and the wampanoag both benefited from that treaty in the short run. That peace and prosperity, although short, is what is being celebrated.

It has morphed, as it should, into a time to give thanks for life...period....the alternative seems worse. Don’t make this political or social. This should be a time of simpe gratitude. Keep it simple and tell your 4 year old it is right and just to be humble and grateful.
