With obesity soaring, focus has turned to soda taxes. What happened in Colombia shows how ugly it can get.http://nyti.ms/2jzGkGT

If one eats too many calories from whatever source one gets fat. The focus on soda is misguided. Drink more calories from milk than one burns off from activity one will gain weight.

Actually sugar is the problem not the calories. If you drink too much sugar the liver turns it to fat pretty quick

The soda tax is more about the unquenchable Progressive thirst for $ & power than about improving anyone’s health. People would be healthier and happier if they could keep more of their earnings, spend their earnings or save as they wished and live their lives free of do gooders.

The Soda Tax is not progressive. It is a regressive tax. 87% in a poll opposed it in Cook County Illinois and it was repealed after two months.

Progressive in the sense of liberal , Taylorized micro management of people’s lives, rent seeking taxation and faddish obsessiveness . Regressive in that it impacts poor people more than wealthy people. Regressive in its backwardness.

People should be responsible for their own bodies. If parents are feeding their children soda for breakfast lunch and dinner that still doesn't mean I should have to pay a tax on it. Liberty in America has been devoured by the leftists freaks that are populating it.

Soda taxes beyond liberal lunacy, just total crazy wrong. Would anyone like to take a shot explaining how if I drink 3 coke zeros at breakfast ( 0 calories) I should be taxed while someone drinking 3 OJ's not taxed? You will inadvertently make the case this tax is crazy

and its such a BS rich people tactic. they want people to supposedly "eat healthier", so what is the solution? make supposedly "unhealthy" food more expensive instead of making "healthy" foods cheaper.

what about supposedly healthier options like organic and free range, etc? those tend to be more. not to mention so called diet foods.

This is not about organic though is it. You can eat healthy for very little money, for the cost of a bag of chips and a soda you can buy a meal consisting of vegetables

Slapping taxes on drinks is hardly going to solve anything. Just another pitiful tax grab attempt. The real problem is increasing automation of everything and sedentary lifestyles
