Very true - brand new facility provided by gov of PNG not Australia. More to the story then this article. Nothing stopping them relocating to the better facility- they stay because they are in PNG and it’s not an Australian facility (never was)

As an Australian this is shameful and embarrassing, but as Americans know you don’t always get the government you want

Don't they ban guns? So does gun control lead to similar situations?

We have gun control, where semi automatics are heavily restricted. These people are located in a camp in Papua New Guinea. The Australian Govt want to move them, but the refugees fear violence from the PNG locals.

Why doesn't the Australian government do anything about this?

The PNG high court ruled the camp unconstitutional. The Aust. govt said it would close the camp and started to do that. The govt is a conservative one who has built a platform around screwing over refugees. This link is a nice concise history.http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2017/10/30/history-manus-island-and-whats-next-refugees …

As an aside, boat arrivals to Australia over the last 40 years total less than 40K people. The Dept of Immigration estimate more than 50K people are in Australia at any point with an expired visa.

Australian policies of never resettling boat people has saved untold # of lives. For comparison, see daily death toll in Mediterranean.

In many ways australian whites are like the whites here in the us..they populated a land inhabited by indigenous people..committed genocide against those indigenous people and made their land exclusive for themselves only
