Death, injuries during pledging, sexual assault, illicit drug and alcohol use. Let's face it, fraternities are glorified gangs.

I think we all know there is no good reason to keep fraternities going. They are just too destructive.

As a Greek, I know there are faults in the system. However, frat. rules are only as good as those who follow them & those who enforce them. All Greeks shouldn't be punished for the actions of indiv.'s in other org.'s. The system needs to be changed, but not abolished. #GreekLife

Provide me w/ stats on NON-Greek binge drinking, sexual assault & segregation of say, sports clubs or student political orgs. Also how many thousands a year are killed by guns, cars & disease. Whereas you call for eliminating Greek organizations for single digit deaths?

So if we do away with Greek life, students are going to stop binge drinking? That is ridiculous and naieve.

Lol that's a strawman. Greek life ENCOURAGES the behavior, people feel pressured to drink more in frats and often go past their limits

No more than any other college beer party, Greek or non Greek.

Don't intend to offend folks who had positive Greek experiences, but I always felt like Greek culture on campus (CU Boulder) soured the scene—one more social hierarchy to observe

In the last 72 hours, 78 Americans have died by gun violence. Any comparison to frat misadventures? Colleges should moderate immature behavior more vigorously, no question. But advocate getting rid of college organizations while there are virtually no restrictions on gun sales?

Because fraternities have a higher graduation rate than the general student population and their alumni donate most of the money to endowments and to build buildings.

If male frats followed the VERY strict rules imposed on female Greek organizations the problem would be SOLVED.
