One, read the article. Two, education is supposed to increase social mobility, and honestly, if you think only the rich should be able to actually afford higher education then you are part of the problem.

How is that even slightly relevant here? Why do you want to stop the poor from pursuing higher education and make American research less competitive?

The government has no obligation to subsidize higher education. The private sector needs to figure that out. Work at getting a scholarship. Stop whining.

They're not subsidizing, it's just a tax break. If this exemption goes away, only the rich and foreigners will be able to afford this. Scholarships are your answer? Naive and ignorant. This is an exemption that makes a lot of sense, no reason to tax this.

Oh really? Then why are Democrats arguing that any tax breaks "have to be paid for"? It is subsidized.

By your logic, all gifts and types of value gained should be taxed as income. So you support raising capital gains to income tax? Sweet! We’ll be out of the deficit in only a few years!

Not paying taxes is causing many problems. If you're making 80k a year as the article states then your making 55k more than average taxpayers. Clickbait isn't the best policy unless you're trying to upset people that don't finish reading the article

They are not making 80k per year!!!! At MIT they get 33k for teaching classes while working on their degree. The house tax plan would tax the average tuition of 50k that they don't pay.

My daughter makes 15k for teaching classes while in a doctoral program. Now she will need to pay tax on whatever the average tuition is at her college. Try living on that amount.

This is no surprise. The @GOP is working to create a permanent underclass. You do that by enacting policies that hurt education, healthcare and social programs. The new tax plan does all three.
