A furious race is on to develop self-driving trucks. They may hit the road sooner than most people think.http://nyti.ms/2Azhb2c

We already pretty much had this it was called railroads. One driver for thousands of tons of material. Unfortunately politicians decided to subsidize highways with tax money, not rail, thereby giving the high total cost option to be economically favorable.

It would be a breeze to make rail self driving. Rail is also more fuel efficient, can be electric within cities, carries heavy loads better than trucks, & aren’t as susceptible to weather. Too bad they’ve been pulling up rail lines to more remote area since the 70s.

If we spent 25% of what we spent on highways on rail instead; we could increase rail speeds, add infrastructure for transitioning cargo to short haul trucking, relieve highway congestion, and reduce the overall transportation carbon footprint.

MY CONCERN. How hack proof will these be, or are we just in a hurry to help terrorists cause accidents. Cars WITH drivers have gotten hacked. Please provide information.pic.twitter.com/7DMgUFPVoA

I can't even get people to answer these two questions let alone a possible hack one. "Computers & smart phones crash & have problems, so why won't these have the same problems?" Or "Who will take responsibility & payout a family for a multi auto only crash?" No one can answer
