What about the character Taj from Van Wilder? Arguably more stereotypical. Regret doing the movie?

See also: Mike Myers mangling a Scottish accent for Shrek. It wasn't even Scot-ish. Why didn't they just get Billy Connolly?

Apu was the central character in an episode aired over 20 which railed against the idiocy of 'IMMIGRANTS TAKE OUR JOBS' Let's maybe consider the entire body of work.

Simpsons are progressive, despite this stereotype of Indians. It's not like they go over the top to make him look bad. Penn can feel like he does. I respect his pov. Simpsons aren't the enemy he needs to be fighting now. The orange, not yellow folk, are the enemy.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say there’s about a gazillion things we could be trying to address than a cartoon character in a show that has many stereotypes.

The entire show are over exaggerated stereotypes and have been for years. They're not personally attacking the Indian or Hindu communities, imo.
