The qualifier ‘often’ should be removed. It will mislead people.

It was no better than placebo. Normally we call that useless without qualification.

Is stenting shown to help with mortality, if not chest pain?

It doesn't mean they don't prevent future artery blockage, ergonomic future myocardial infarctions 😒

The procedure is done to relieve coronary artery blockage. Whether that'll also relieve chest pain is debatable and the focus of this paper.

I sent this to my dad and he sent me a strongly worded email about how he “substantially disagrees”... so y’know. Old white guy disagrees

Maybe he disagrees because the NYT article oversimplifies the outcome of a very good—yet very complex, nuanced and small—study.

Really, he disagrees because stents sorta worked for him. His anecdotal experience means more to him than a study.

Yeah same for me I guess, though I do think study is good. Always a challenge to extrapolate study results to individual real-world outcomes

Well, just because something works for one doesn’t mean it works for all. The Lancet knows what they’re talking about. I tend to trust them

Yep, agree. What’s good for one isn’t necessarily good for all. This study confirms what cardiologists have known about stents for 10 years.

That is a transcather aortic valve (TAVR) in the Twitter picture not a coronary stent. The article has a coronary stent picture/drawing.

The most important message of this trial is that coronary stenting significantly reduced the tissue dysfunction related to target artery.
