This has gotten really, really ugly. Do the vast majority of Catalanians really want independence or just better treatment from Madrid?

they do not. It is the gov and radical political parties instigating population and using public media for their goals.

You're a total ignorant. Guardia Civil is NOT a "paramilitary force", a term loved to be used by supporters of the illegal referendum.

indeed, it is a national police present in rural areas mainly or for certain services. Like gendarmerie in France.

Yeah. it's a prestigious public safety POLICE unit, of military nature and based nationwide including Catalonia.http://www.abc.es/espana/abci-mosso-cope-muchos-mossos-quieren-unirse-policia-nacional-o-guardia-civil-201710060949_noticia.html …

Spain hs been giving extra low tax conditions to change companies from Barcelona to Madrid or other cities. We'll create new banks and energy companies, we always hv and always will. You can keep all those companies that you are persuading, but with a few million customers less.

Exactly, declare independence and reduce business tax to half that of Spain. Watch the companies from all places of Europe come flocking.

Please, don't say no sense things. Catalonia can't afford a low tax country, they'll need money. And even with that they'll be out of EU

Redce business tax, and watch businesses flood in! Employing thousands. That's how efficient economies work. Business follows low taxation!

Sure, but looking at the social structure I still don’t see Catalonia with low taxation. Also, if you have no access to the market, low tax won’t guarantee success. Secessionist promises are based in utopia.
