The Dems has a closed nomination and HRC won; the GOP had an open nomination and DJT won; which system was better? Hard to choose

Open & closed primaries aren't determined by party bosses, they are determined by state commissions, HRC & DJT had the same rules in NY.

I was referring to the overall process in selecting candidates; Dems was closed for all practical purposes; GOP was wide open; results = Ugh

This is why the Democratic party is such a mess. This old system no longer works. Granted it gave us FDR, but the system is now broken.

I've heard the same about Chicago. Maybe we should elect the political bosses & hold them accountable for whom they appoint to office.

NYT complicit, virtually always backing Democrats in NYC politics, so Democrats run NYC & rest of State except NYS Senate & close there too.

LOL, Times has no weight in local races. The electorate is overwhelmingly Democrat anyway. Problem is no democracy within party primaries.

Please fix the error in this article. Kathy Hochul had to run for the seat in Congress, against a Republican in a very red district.
