Looks like Cuba punted the storm towards Florida.

I am a Cuban American - the visual just struck me as ironic, given all the idiotic things being blamed on immigrants by current POTUS.

Agree! I have family and friends in Miami - I pray the storm is turns out to be not as dire as it seems. Scary.

Can hurricane storm surges trigger earthquakes?

In rare cases. Like the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. I don't think it's very common though.

I just read about the earthquake in Mexico. It seems like more than just coincidence.

It is possible that the storm pushed enough debris and sediment to put stress on the fault line which may have led to the earthquake.
