I applaud him and I hate to play "what-about" because there r countless example of whitening in casting, but don't forget Red in Shawshank.

And at the same time "Hamilton" continues to kill. Hypocrisy should NEVER know racial boundaries. If it's acceptable for one it is for all

Representation matters, Justin.

should we be mad that the Grammys over represent minorities or that the Oscars underrepresent? Or how about we be adults and stop counting?

When do you normally stop counting? About three-fifths in?

Then it should be applied to everybody! Like British actors shouldn't play American characters and vice versa!
-
It's not about cross racial casting, it's about actors from a privilidged majority filling the few roles written with minorities in mind.

I think it's super cool of Skrein to step aside and recognize someone else may need that opportunity more than he does. Real empathy there.

Hollywood is just lazy. Back in the day they had no problem casting random-ass asians to play asians, now all I hear is "we can't find any"
-
For Hollywood, representation doesn't matter, only star power. If an actor is popular, they'll find any excuse to race-swap. It's BS.
-
This goes both ways, BTW. They'll cast popular minority actors for white roles and vice versa and dismiss all critics just to cast a star.
-
It's upsetting for minorities and fans of existing source material alike.
-
"Oh what's that, kusinagi's japanese? Who cares! Scarlett Johansson is HOT BABY! We'll just chalk the decision up to lack of Asian talent."
-
Hollywood has never, currently does not, and never will give a real damn about any kind of source material or casting precedent for films.
-
If they did, Ron Perlman would be hell boy again.
