Is a mea culpa sufficient? How about a plan of action (e.g. diversifying the newsroom) to avoid these flubs in the future?

This stuff is both hard and not hard. Not hard in that if you have a diverse group such slips are more readily found.

the real story here is whether the bubbles are made of ground up car tires and cause cancer as my mother lovingly insistspic.twitter.com/xw5gJay2kq

Assure her that they are pure recycled car oil, not tires at all!

Maybe instead of walking back this shit article you could dedicate some resources to hiring a few diverse writers for the newsroom instead
-
*Better writers
-
No. He said what he said. This happened not because of crappy writers but the newsroom don't have any or enough diverse writers.
-
I guess if they're reporting on bubble tea then they need more teenage white girls

Is it Bubble Tea or Boba Tea?

-
Either terms acceptable in the west. "Boba Milk Tea" means large tapioca balls. "Pearl Milk Tea" means small tapioca balls.
-
uhh really? we've called it either regardless of the size of the tapioca lol (I live in cali)
-
In the US either usage is fine. Ordering in Taiwan you would need to distinguish between big pearl / Boba or small pearl / pearl milk tea.
-
ohh really?? :o you cant just say 珍珠奶茶?
