to me they are defending the right to incite violence. and while i admire the work @ACLU does. i wish they would critically engage with this

No more than they're sanctioning murder by protecting
#prochoice activists. -
we can have a separate discussion about roe v wade if you want. right now we are focussed on the 1A and its limitations
-
Exactly. The ACLU fights for civil liberty, not morality.
-
You get the point.

The ACLU is not defending "groups." They are defending The Constitution of the United States... as should we all. http://www.democracycovenant.com

A fine line the ACLU has to walk, but they're doing the right thing. Protect freedom of speech, condemn inciting violence. Hold the line.

No such thing as alt left. Alt right defined by Spencer. Media reported poll. Just because u don't like the news doesn't make it fake.

@ACLU defends freedom of speech. "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I fully support the ACLU in this. Free speech is free speech even if repugnant. Better to let these roaches march where we can see them.

They should defend EVERYONE'S rights, or else they're NOT RIGHTS. They would be privileges.

People need to remember the ACLU basically is not a social justice movement, but a "free speech" group. Know the history.

This is why we need clear, strict legal definitions for "hate groups" & "hate speech."
-
Persons or groups that condone, provoke, or participate in violence against other persons based on immutable characteristics, zero tolerance
-
Do they forfeit their 1st Amend rights? Can't we distinguish b/t a bigot's right to speak & bigotry? Defend the former & oppose the latter.
-
If they condone, provoke, or participate in violence, they have forfeited their 1st amendment rights, imho; but needs legal definition.
-
That's an awfully slippery slope. Who decides? Some say the mention of Jesus does that. Should I not be allowed to speak of Him in public?
-
To clarify, I support free speech, but not violence nor incitement to violence, just bc of disagreement with the message.

I enjoyed our dialogue! I hope you enjoy the eclipse from your spot in mid-America! We'll get a partial one in AL.

I love respectful dialog! Thank you for that. About 96% totality here in southern MO, may drive 2 hours northeast to see full deal!
