Is anybody investigating this bizarre event? US Navy, Japan?
-
For sure. And the captain of the navy vessel will not look good.

The weird movement was AFTER the colllision at 1:30. Fitzgerald was hit on starboard so they made the mistake.
-
Agreed and the speed at which a merchant vessel is being scrutinised while the navy does nothing speaks volumes to mariners

Is it normal for a container ship to make a complete circle in the middle of its voyage? Maybe they were asleep as well?

I know nothing about ships, but this seems so bizarre to me. Is this common and we just never hear about it?
-
What do you know about ships? The Fitzgerald dinged a merchant ship on the starboard side. Nothing mysterious about that.
-
I didn't realize they just ran into each other. I thought that they had sonar or radar or something that would prevent this from happening.
