this is the equivalent of having a brand new car in the driveway of your trailer park home

no it's not. A phone is a requirement for modern jobs.
-
Not for $100/mo - there's budget carriers for <$45/mo. Get rid of the luxury data and go back to texting/calling
-
what if your employer needs to email you or you need to email something
-
most people have internet at home. Just get a cheap burner phone for texting/calling

I haven't had a cellphone since December. I only have a home phone and I been getting by just fine.
-
I bet it feels marvelous too. I'm right behind you on that.

To be fair, if you are paying $100 a month for a phone bill, you are getting ripped off.

I'd like to see some of those SOB give up a phone for health insurance. None of them care about anybody but themselves.

We reject the belief that Americans must choose between a $100/month cellphone and no cellphone at all.

Some rural areas do not have Internet access. People use smart phone hotpot for Internet access. Kids need Internet for school
-
Try the local library...its free! Has computers you can use....for free!
-
Yes. I agree. But again, some of these rural children don't have the means of transport.
-
I grew up in rural Maine..library within walking/biking distance. Children that want to learn will put in the effort!
-
I don't want to argue with you when I agree about libraries, but there are a lot of kids that live farther out.
-
There is also OCRA and many schools provide free laptops to kids. My alma mater does now thanks to bill&Melinda gates foundation.
-
Bill Gates is a great person.
-
His foundation in the USA has helped many rural school districts! The couple in the NYT do NOT live in rural UT!
