Not commonly. Go to any shop in Britain - very unusual to find eggs in the refrigerator aisle. They don't need to be.

we buy eggs unrefrigerated in Germany, then as soon as we reach home, we put them in the fridge :)

because you guys wash them with chemicals, thus destroying the protective layer that stops salmonella etc entering the membrane.

never met anyone who didn't refrigerate eggs. It's standard to refrigerate them in Europe.
