Okay, so we're just plain done with freedom of religion now? As a species?

It is rather a political statement. The veil isn't even mentioned in the quran.
-
My understanding is that many practitioners consider it religious observance. Not wild about limiting free expression, period
-
My understanding is, that a hidden face is the opposide of an expression. No smile, no tears, just a black hole in the space.
-
It sure is weird how a Muslim woman and a white man can have different opinions on what constitutes expression
-
I see it rather as two members of the same society, not so much in your racist terms. Ps Muslims can be white too
-
But do you have to understand/endorse every form of expression to support everyone's rights to expression?
-
A women with a full face veil will hardly integrate into society. It is a huge disadvantage.

again, forcing women to NOT wear something is just as controlling as forcing them to wear something.
-
The full face veil cuts the person off from society. I dont see how no full face veil has the same effect.

not a fan but shouldn't people be free to dress their own bodies the way they wish?
-
Why don't you ask them if it's their choice? Oh wait you can't, they're only allowed to speak to their husbands.
-
.. and to you apparently
-
That's literally the point of the burqa, to shield them from unfamiliar men. It has no place in a free society.
-
i hope you find your free society

and there falls the last stronghold of liberal democracy.
-
Don't attach labels that don't fit and be surprised when a conservative party leader proposes something conservative.
-
In this sense I am talking about liberal in terms of a western democracy, not in terms of liberal vs conservative policy.
-
I would disagree for several reasons. The most important is we aren't talking a ban in all public spaces.
-
In a majority atheist country freedom of religion also means freedom from religion, example: judge or teacher.
-
And for a functioning democracy it is important that in a givernment setup you can see the person's face.
-
Considering this being a non issue and I have yet to know a person who saw someone in an actual Burka in Germany.
-
So claiming this being an indicator for Germany being a liberal democracy or not is slightly ridiculous.
