        When doing genealogy research I learned that it's a fairly new phenomenon. Only 150 ys ago, death (of mother or child) was common.

        In my own heritage, I've seen families with 10 out of 12 children dying before the age of 4 in the 1850ies.

        yes, that's more than usual, but not unheard of. the stat was just for child birth and the near time around.

        you tell them nothing is without risk. We have such excellent health care that it is uncommon but ppl take childbirth for granted
