        @fernandaNYT thats because they aren't citizens. Court appointed lawyers are a right for citizens. Open your brain dying NY times

        - my understanding is anyone who is charged with a criminal offense (not civil) & meets $ eligibility. May vary by state.

        - Equal Protection Clause in 14th Amendment applies to any/all persons - not just citizens or legal residents.
