If “defund the police” means “demilitarize the police” then say that instead of putting politicians in an impossible box

It’s a slogan, and a slogan that plays into the hands of our opponents. Police the police, REIMAGINE the police, REFORM the police, yes! But defund the police is a slogan bound to do our cause more harm than good

When we say defund the police, it's a simple as stopping the supply of surplus military equipment to citizens that have absolutely ZERO training or need for such equipment. Cops shouldn't be dressed like soldiers while they write tickets for failing to signal a lane change.

Yes. Unfortunately, too many Americans of all stripes and persuasions prefer simplistic, feel-good slogans to the complexity of real, workable solutions. This is understandable, but does nothing to remedy any of our shared problems.
