They were Catholic high school students who came to Washington on a field trip to rally at the March for Life. He was a Native American veteran of the Vietnam War who was there to raise awareness at the Indigenous Peoples March.https://nyti.ms/2FPElax

Correction: This previous tweet, and an earlier version of this article, using information from the Indigenous Peoples Movement, gave an incorrect description of Nathan Phillips’s military service. https://nyti.ms/2CCayP1 pic.twitter.com/wip6ypmXcy

Update: Nathan Phillips's military service record released Wednesday indicates that he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1972 and served until 1976, but is not a Vietnam veteran. Our "Vietnam veteran" error came from the march organizers, not him. https://nyti.ms/2CCayP1 pic.twitter.com/4uUk4nOlYy

Not often you see the @nytimes get ratio'd. Maybe it's because his service record isn't relevant.

Then why was his service record in the headline of nearly every story then?

Thanks for the correction not being hidden in fine print somewhere. Keep it up and in a few years you may have your reputation back.

Decades not years 🙄. They've been going downhill since 1931 and Walter Duranty enabled Stalin. They were just a bit more subtle about pushing an agenda....for a while ....no more😳

His exact words in the TV interview he did were, "I am a Vietnam times veteran." I remember hearing him say EXACTLY that. Why are you trying to smear him? Admit that YOU made the mistake and he never claimed to be a Vietnam veteran, YOU DID! DESPICABLE!

🤔 my dad served during the Vietnam years as well, in Germany, when the Olympics were bombed. But that doesn’t make him any less of a Veteran, so what’s your point NYTimes?
