For nearly a year and a half, top officials in Newark denied that their water system had a widespread lead problem, despite ample evidence that the city was facing a public health crisis that had echoes of the one in Flint, Michiganhttps://nyti.ms/2DchrJH

Cory Booker has literally been talking about this for years. I don’t know how many of his speeches he talks about the fact that Flint is not an anomaly, that over 200 cities have high levels of lead in their water, including Newark. That’s why he’s so big on environmental issues.

Months before Newark announced plans to provide filters to some residents, @NRDC donated filters to local community groups for distribution. Together with @NEWCaucus, we're fighting in court to ensure that Newark residents have access to safe water:https://www.nrdc.org/newark-drinking-water-crisis …

@GovMurphy @rasjbaraka @CoryBooker As new governor, it was stated that high on the list is clean water - It’s a basic necessity of life. What is the plan to address water quality in Newark and other towns in NJ? Why are we in the situation to begin with? Speak up!

My first thought seeing this was its time to change my PUR filter. FWIW, the PUR filter I use claims to remove 99% of lead. I don't think it matters where you live, or what your local bureaucrats claim. Drinking unfiltered water doesn't seem to be a very good idea.

Wish journalists, before writing stories on lead in drinking water, first would bother to read the WHO's guidelines for lead in drinking water. http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/dwq/chemicals/lead.pdf … More than 80% of daily lead intake comes from food and dust!
