America’s public schools are still touting devices with screens — even offering digital-only preschools — while the rich are banning screens from class altogetherhttps://nyti.ms/2Q7QolS

Affluent children have access to the latest devices and technology at home, so they grow up with a level of technology literacy that poor kids simply don’t have access to outside of a school provinding it. Does it put poor kids at a disadvantage spending time on it? Maybe.

That's so far from the truth its pathetic...its not that poor kids don't have the technology...all they need is a cellphone or a tablet...its the way the kids have to be online to do assignments. It makes them lazy, and they never put the device down

Well since I was a foster kid, adopted, poor and at times homeless as a kid, I can say from experience no they don’t always have access and certainly not to newer tech. Saying tech makes poor kids lazy is offensive. It does take away from what rich kids get to focus on in school.

82% of poor households (with a combined income of less than 30k) have internet access (and thus have access to technology)(http://www.pewinternet.org/fact-sheet/internet-broadband/ …). Try using statistics instead of anecdotes to make arguments.

Thank you...black or white, poor or rich, this is the land of opportunity. A teacher can't give a child any assignments they don't have access to complete.

Schools plunged into tech because people who made money from it (Gates, Joel Klein, Apple) pushed it. There never was much research to back it up. Before we veer off the other way, let's try to figure out what's really going on.
