Armed with an AR-15-style assault rifle and at least 3 handguns, a man shouting anti-Semitic slurs opened fire inside a crowded Pittsburgh synagogue, killing at least 11 congregants and wounding 4 police officers and 2 others, the authorities saidhttps://nyti.ms/2O7lfgs

Back in Feb. 2018, @cjchivers, a former Marine infantry officer and NYT reporter, explained how an AR-15-style rifle allows a shooter to fire upon people in much the same way that many American soldiers and Marines would fire M16 and M4 rifles in combathttps://nyti.ms/2Sp4z7u

How many people that own this sort of gun has used it on innocent civilians? Would it really have helped things if the man were serving overseas instead of here? Would you rather he have shot up a synagogue in a different country? Why do you think combat use makes guns safe?pic.twitter.com/1TAi2g6M1U

The goal of the NRA is to sell guns. It’s a lobbying organization representing gun manufacturers. They want everyone armed. For profit.

The right to bear arms is here for a reason. Society's that chose this right also face the reality that tragic things like this can and will happen. That does not mean you remove our right to bear arms. Only an idiot would think that.

What kind of response is that supposed to mean? Does the '21st century' mean the government cannot become corrupt turns on its people that we should not have the right to defend ourselves in such a situation?

When will the #secondamendment become outdated? The day that, 1. There is no more violent crime. 2. There is zero chance of hostility with other countries. 3. There is zero chance of a tyrannical state. 4. The state takes full responsibility for crimes committed against public.

Hopefully your marine officer told you what select-fire was, and how heavily regulated it is outside of the military. I would hate for the NYT to be viewed as less than forthcoming with those things called "facts." The ar-15 modern rifle is 1 trigger pull, 1 bullet, period.

Thankyou, someone finally says this. The AR-15 is nothing like actual combat rifles, as it has no automatic function, only semi-auto. It is a gun, and it does shoot bullets real fast and real straight in a line, though. That's about all it has in common with an M4.

To quote the article, even! “For decades the American military has trained its conventional troops to fire their M4s and M16s in the semiautomatic mode — one bullet per trigger pull — instead of on “burst” or automatic in almost all shooting situations.”
