That's right! Because the important thing here is the shareholders, not the actual environment that Exxon Mobil had more than a hand in destroying. Kudos!

NY tried sueing oil companies for the costs of climate change, but the judge threw it out. This is their new attempt to make oil companies pay, and it may have a better shot at success. You should support this rather than be cynical about it if you care about climate change.

it's just a cycle of money, what is NY gonna do if they win a shit ton of money. Throw it in the ocean and yell "You're clean now!, we won!" It's all over. Unless they want to throw the executives from the past 20 years behind bars, then that on the other hand might be effective

Getting a judgement against oil companies (whether a fine, jail time, or whatever else) would be huge. It would set precedent that oil companies can not support climate denial/confusion, which is currently a huge barrier to building the political will required to save ourselves.

I'm digging it but I can't help but feel it's way too little wayyyyyyy too late. but I understand the "but we need to try anyway" line of thought too.

I hear you, it's kinda overwhelming. And yes, much damage has already been done. But the scale of the future damages we will face if we don't make dramatic changes is way way way larger. We still have a ton to lose.

It would be like losing $100 at the casino then hopelessly throwing your hands in the air while handing over your checkbook to the dealer.

Should happen to all the stations, Shell for example did the same thing. They knew about the climate impact of their products 2 decades ago but didn't really publish their scientific proof or intern memos about their business and its impact.. #ShellKnew
