President Trump openly described himself as a "nationalist," a label that carries undertones of fascist politics and racism. Stephen Colbert was appalled. Our late-night roundup:https://nyti.ms/2D5Hlii

Nationalism is the reason the USA is FREE. What is the problem now?

I really could not care any less about what this comedian thinks. Also, how again is this about racism? And please fill me in on the connection between sovereignty of a country and patriotism to racism. Just trying to do my due diligence.pic.twitter.com/uLzYamVY1H

Oh. So, Trump said he was a "White Nationalist" and not just "Nationalist"? Seems like two very different policies.

Only people who don’t know what a “nationalist” is have a problem with the term. SAD!

We can all Google it. You might not remember, but there was a time that the word Nationalist was rarely used alone. "White Nationalist" was the typical use. It's not the definition of the word itself, it's the context of the title and the history around the phrase.

People are conflating two separate ideas. Nationalism is loyalty to one’s nation, but people think Nationalism is associated with racism since the Nazis assumed the mantle of nationalism to justify their racism. No. They are two different ideas. Stop conflating @colbertlateshow

I think you and I agree. Unfortunately some people enjoy conflating different ideas and accusing @realDonaldTrump of things that aren’t even true. Nationalism does not mean racism.
