Doctors routinely leave bullet fragment inside the bodies of people who have been shot, because it can be riskier to remove them. We asked 4 survivors: What’s it like to live with the object that almost killed you?https://nyti.ms/2EFkmwc

I got to pull a bullet out of a guy the other day at work. Had been in his hip for 7 years. Body started to reject it. Don’t know who was more excited. Him or me. My first bulletectomy . Not his first GSW.

It's true, often bullets & especially buckshot are not removed. I worked in major emergency rooms for over 25yrs & saw many GSWs. I'm pretty sure the NYT won't write about items like vibrators, dildos, fruit, bottles, candles or cell phones being surgically removed from orifices.

The shooter was responsible, not the bullet. If a storm felled a tree that crashed into a house nearly killing the resident, but they needed the wood from the tree to rebuild the house, of course they’d use it.
