"The idea that a person's sex is determined by their anatomy at birth is not true, and we've known that it’s not true for decades," said an endocrinologist at Mount Sinai Health System in New Yorkhttps://nyti.ms/2CZhoAS

If sex is biological determined by your X and Y chromosomes isn’t that scientifically proving it is determined at birth (or technically in the womb)... no sex change operation can change your DNA chromosomes (ps I only follow NYT to laugh at these ridiculous articles)

Chromosomes do not necessarily line up with appearance of external genitalia. Intrauterine hormones affect gender expression: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3296090/ … And:https://www.researchgate.net/publication/239657377_The_Five_Sexes_Why_Male_and_Female_are_not_Enough …

The Five Sexes has been criticised a lot and rightly so. Fausto-Sterling didn't consult with intersex people to draw her conclusions and a lot of the language she suggests has been rejected by intersex people and orgs as othering. It's just trans propaganda.

How about if your 23rd pair of chromosomes is XX or XY. Does that determine gender?

You can have XY with a nonfunctional SRY gene on the Y chromosome and develop as essentially female. You can have XXX, XXY, just one X chromosome...so many combinations it’s not black and white. Also there are people with ambiguous grnitalia. Cheers!

100% of people can be classified as either male or female, even intersex people are either definitely male or definitely female in terms of sex. Happy to help.

I'm not going to get into a twitter match with you. But I encourage you to look at peer-reviewed studies and put your feelings about what "should" or "shouldn't" be aside when looking at them.

No spat required. I’m sure you are lovely, but you are objectively mistaken. Nothing to do with feelings. Sex is immutable and binary. All exceptions are anomalous mutations and not symptomatic of a recurrent problem or diagnosis (taken from peer reviewed medical studies ty)

These people can never get their story straight. Gender is a social construct but narrowly defining it defies medical and scientific knowledge? They purposely conflate sex and gender, then call people transphobes for pointing out the reality that sex is bio and immutable.

💯. And they seem to find the most educated people to use pseudo scientific babble to confuse people into thinking they must be correct since it is obviously so complicated.

What’s inside (DNA) determines genitalia. Anything different is perception aka that person’s reality. Psychological in most cases, and deserving of compassion and assistance.

It is a very loose analogy, agreed. What you've provided is proof of how complex this issue is. I would submit that this RARE condition is being exploited by those with psychological drives that should be treated otherwise.

This entire article is you quoting ONE SINGLE "expert", Joshua Safer, who also appoved the illegal medical experiment on babies using banned imported drugs, which you so glowingly covered in a previous un-factchecked piece: (thread) https://twitter.com/ystriya/status/964564632831713280 …
