Most research on depression focuses on the afflicted, a new paper argues, overlooking a potentially informative group: people who have recoveredhttps://nyti.ms/2CZDuU6

Has anyone ever really recovered from depression...?

I believe I have. I suffered severe, debilitating depression for a decade. For the last 15 years, I've lived a contented life with goals, and energy and optimism without a relapse.

Does one ever recover? I would use the phrase “well managed” or the word “remission”. I think you could consider depression as a chronic condition, yes?

I'd agree. U never really recover. It's always there. Well managed is a good term because that's what it is. You dont recover from depression, you manage it. Same as u would with alcoholism.

Very very true. I found being active and social to be a good "manager". Talk with people who are/have gone through it, and reconcile the feelings your having. And also accept your depression. Accept it as a challenge, and one you have to overcome Hercules isnt famous bc it was ez

But fact is, it's extremely difficult to be active and social when Depressed, worse than that, we tends to shut off everyone including people who care about us, and knowing it's just making things worse but can't really do anything about it. It's a demon living in our body

Agreed. What I would say then, is it is up to those who have managed depression,to be the ones who help people movie past it. Know what made you think that way and teach/learn how to combat it

I think depression is the reality of life , when you re not depressed you re escaping reality by not thinking about how things really are . Can i have the noble prize now ?

I agree but then I've been medicated for the last 15 years.😕 Good days and bad, I'm not sure if it's a curable disease. I don't walk around sobbing all day and that's a good thing. The little things😘

That is so true. As someone who I'd say, mostly recovered from chronic near suicidal depression, it's a beast to live with. But I will say, once you do move past it or at least deal with it, life takes on a different meaning and shape.

Depression was believed to be a chronic condition that could be controlled but not cured that's probably why little is known about life after depression.
