The Trump administration is moving to exclude transgender people from civil rights protections — defining gender as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born withhttps://nyti.ms/2CWtVF7

I agree! Why does sexual orientation cause someone to routinely announce it to the public if a mental illness is not involved? A normal person does not do that!

Straight people: -talk about their sexual interests -discuss their significant others -demand advice for appealing to the opposite sex Heterosexuality is normalized in a way that LGBT needs to be for the “lack of announcement” you describe to be applicable.

Also trans people have a variety of reasons to disclose their status. Sometimes it’s because they don’t “pass” so they must make their identity clear. Other times, the revelation can lead to violence, so they make it clear ahead of time, so they are not accused of deceiving.

Often they are publicly outed. In order to demand rights, people will be vocal about their needs. There is also a considerable effort to normalize gender nonconformity and transition. And finally, if you don’t have to keep a secret that so greatly affects your life why would you?

Well said. I find it ridiculous that my identity and worth as a human being depends upon my genitalia and not my brain or my actions. All people deserve equal protection under the law and sadly will not get it unless those rights are spelled out and enforced.

The person who made the original comment has on their profile that they were a police officer. I wonder how many people they discriminated against in their "32 year" career. I'm sickened by the amount of bigots who have or currently are working with the general public.

Another comic book fan? I doubt this is a coincidence. Discussing mental health issues is my area of expertise, as I am a licensed mental health counselor. Sexuality is not a mental disorder. I will never stop demanding human rights for all LGBTQ people.

Im not against trans or lgbt community..but.. where was all this gender stuff 20 years ago? Even 15? All this stuff came out of nowhere within the last 7 years. It was either you were gay or strait 2012 and earlier.. not bashing, just saying..

bruh, they were talking about this shit in monty python skits. back in the 70's. Eric Idle played an openly trans character in the Life of Brian. it probably seems like it's coming out of nowhere because talking about it got you killed back then and progressively got better.

I'm just letting you know, trans people aren't new. they've been around for a long time and I'm also offering up an explanation why it SEEMS like it's recent.

The movement for LGBT rights in the United States started in 1969 with the Stonewall Riots; they've been around for almost 50 years now! And LGBT folks have existed for millennia before that. It's actually a very interesting history that I believe should be taught more often.

I just learned yesterday that before Hitler and the Nazi's seized power, Berlin had a rich history of gay rights (if that's the right term) but all if it was destroyed. Including historical texts on the subject during mass book burnings. Pretty sad stuff.
