Screw the EU. Poland should do whatever is best for its own people. They don't take orders from Moscow any longer and neither should they from the EU.

Those rules are in place to protect judicial independence. PiS is undermining Montesquieu's single most important aspect of a free state, that being the separation of powers. They're headed towards autocracy if they continue.

What do you mean? The ruling party literally packed the courts; that's a textbook violation of judicial independence, and is thusly an authoritarian power play.

What that means is mind your own business what the ruling party does in Poland. You're an American student living in Munich, so your opinion on textbook violations add up to jack Squat. Did you cry "authoritarian play" when Poland was getting its marching orders from Moscow? No.

Well I wasn't born yet when that was happening, so I wasn't able to, but if I was around, I would have done so. "Minding your own business what other governments do" has led time and time again to authoritarian regimes, from the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany.

Poland dealt with both, suffering worse under Stalin actually. Read up on the Katyn Massacre. A relative of mine was murdered there. Sorry for making this so personal.

That's the problem of being in the EU! Unelected (appointed) EU officials demand that your nation must be run their way.

Not thrown out, according to Polish law, they reached retirement age and retired, but they do not want to leave and have appealed to Europe's highest court. Judgments given on and a day before the election silence in which the opposition supported by judges, many judges can lose.
