        First of all, Thatcher is not an American. Second the "West" is not what you think it is, it's not ONE thing, there are lobbies supporting different things. Third, back then the goal was to stop communism, and that involved doing some bad things too. Mistakes were also made.

        Finally the ISI of Pakistan by help of CIA succeeded in assasinating the worst nightmare of Taliban! Thanks to this general the whole southern Afghanistan esp. #Kandahar was secure. This just unleashed the Taliban.
