In Opinion Op-Ed contributor Alondra Nelson writes, "To be Native American is to be a member of a tribal community and recognized by that community as such. DNA cannot vouchsafe tribal identity or any other community affiliation."https://nyti.ms/2yJF4ER

Warren: my family has a native connection. Trump: you lie. Warren: my genetics comport with my oral history. World loses its mind. #makeAmericagreatAgain #wtf

Fortunately, DNA can vouchsafe Native American ancestory, which is all she claimed. Stop giving a platform to science-denying, race-baiting Trump lackeys.

Not to mention she has benefited professionally and financially off the false narrative that she was a minority. Very sad indeed.

IF she was told all her life by her family she was a Klingon she would probably believe it - most people believe their parents

More so if she was really part Klingon and taught Klingon values. even if her family was not on Klingon "Rolls". Ancestry is not just lists. It is also family.

1)It's truly not abt DNA. Being from Oklahoma; the likelihood that u r of NAI ancestry increases. The whole thing is ridiculous. In order 2b recognized by a Fed recognized NAI tribe; u have 2 prove it. 2 take advantage of any benefit u r entitled 2; u have 2 show ID proving tribe

2)citizenship. Benefits r not received by NAI descendants based on word of mouth. Seen Warren never received such benefits. She acknowled that a long time ago. I've had a card recognizing me as tribal citizen since I was a child. Benefits rec'd include medical & education. But,

3)never heard of any1 outside of NAI Nation employment hiring NAI b/c they're NAI or accepting them in2 a college/University b/c of NAI status. Many NAI didn't get roll #'s. It wasn't something 2 brag abt back then. Rump has a problem w/NAI going back yrs. Plus, they're brown-red

Cultural identity not withstanding, there was a bet that needed to be settled. Albeit small, Warren has Native American ancestry. Trump should be held accountable for his claims to the contrary.

What an absolutely silly distraction. The administration is looting the country and having American residents killed by our “allies.” Get some focus.

Oh for gawd's sake give the women a break! She's not attempting to do any of that. She was proving to Trump that she did have native DNA. We all have mixed DNA, part of mine is Irish and I doubt Ireland would come after me This is pettiness.

WHY is the NYTimes only publishing anti-Warren op-eds? This is insane, making Warren the bad guy for merely having a DNA test to show that her family wasn't nuts for claiming to have had a native American ancestor. I think the NYTimes has a problem with women politicians.
