An Oregon county closed all its libraries when residents didn’t want to raise taxes to pay for them. Now there’s a battle underway over whether to bring some back. “It’s every library for themselves, and you don’t know where it’s going to lead.”https://nyti.ms/2yLeAD1

I live in NYC and our library provides so much more than just books to read: training, job search, arts programs, coding programs, there is really no end. Taxes support institutions that give everyone a fair chance to succeed. Should only the rich thrive? #NYPL #RegisterToVote

Oh Douglas County, you never fail to remain consistent. $6 a month for a median sized home to keep the libraries open and they say no? One would think they'd have such a windfall from those pretend tax breaks that never trickled down to them, that $6 would be chump change. SMH.

This is not the case. Libraries often buy ebook access from a service and must renew the subscription to continually provide access. Additionally, there are tech service fees and patrons must have access to a reliable, working internet connection.

Whenever government officials cannot get the tax increases they want, they cut the services they believe will hurt the public most. (Yes, the public they are sworn to represent) There is no fat or excess in government that can be cut. It's raise taxes or cut essential services.

I was speaking of local politicians. I've seen it before. There is rot in every level of government.

It’s always been this way in Oregon. Taxes or bond measures hafta be voted on by the community that has to pay. That’s why we have no sales tax.
