According to a new proposal from the TSA, facial recognition might eventually replace passports and other forms of ID at airport security checkpointshttps://nyti.ms/2CO3f9w

Once again The Evil Twin Lobby has bested The Nice Twin Lobby, the latter of which was last seen careening full-speed down The High Road to self-destruction.

Extracareful, now. The way such systems are commonly trained and the way in which the cameras tend to be calibrated, facial-recognition algorithms usually identify Caucasian faces with ease and struggle with all other inputs.

NOPE NOPE NOPE. They’re going to use this to track people too. Oh and facial recognition algorithms are not great at telling non-white people apart. How can this go wrong?

Whenever I am in the long snaking passport queue at Stansted, I notice how much roof space could be filled with phased-array antennae and gimbled cameras to get the passport reading and face recognition done before I get to the gate

I have one of those faces that every time I go somewhere I'm mistaken for someone else - a friend, family member, even a celebrity once or twice. "No, sorry, I'm not Katie" "No, sorry I'm not Tanya" "No, I'm sorry, I'm not her" So let's hope their system is REALLY good. ROTFL.

This is already a reality at any western airport, a passport a mere formality. Your face has been matched to a database, by countless cameras, well before you arrive at security. Your iPhone has facial recognition software, imagine what "they" have. Just count the cameras

I have a lot of concern about the privacy issue, but measures that increase the degree of security are welcome. In addition, privacy and security are inversely proportional magnitudes. Between having more privacy or having more security I prefer to have more security.
