Belgian voters elected the first black mayor in their nation's history on Sunday — a man originally from the huge swath of central Africa that Belgium brutalized for generations, in one of the harshest of the European colonial regimeshttps://nyti.ms/2CNUCvT

It wasn’t Belgium but a private company owned by King Leopold of Belgian (who wasn’t Belgian but German) and who massacred more people than Hitler or Stalin

@nytimes Y'all couldn't find a more flattering photo of Mr. Kompany? The lead pic is of him listening to a white women talk? Maybe I missed it, but I can't find any reason in the story to use her picture.

Good headline for a change! Many European countries have gotten away with serious crimes against humanity.

The colonial terror reign was during the rule of King Leopold II and limited in time. It does not reflect the whole Belgian era.

During the rule of King Leopold II ? Limited in time ? Well, you made may day. La #colonisation (officielle) s'est prolongé jusqu'au Roi Baudoin, et l'Etat colonial était un Apartheid (sans lois raciales écrites).pic.twitter.com/WTsz8bN0YI

Lucky man, in America he would most likely have been shot dead or in prison by now in a nation that 'freed' the slaves by removing the chains and retaining the inequality.

Contrary to the popular belief immigrants enrich the nation they embrace as they feel honored and accepted. The US is a nation of immigrants & has emerged as the top nation in the world with lot of contribution from immigrants in almost all fields of sciences & technology.
