Republicans and Democrats appear to dislike each other to a far greater degree than can be explained by the policy differences between themhttps://nyti.ms/2CLZMs6

Sad truth. Both parties. I start talking policy and all I here back is partisan propaganda, for the most part.

Well I can’t go on twitter without a conservative lying to me, can’t turn on news without one lying to me, read a news article without seeing a c lie in a quote, can’t have RL current events conversation without a c lying to my face. Gets real old.

Sometimes people lie. And, sometimes people are mistaken. But, most of the time, when a person on the other side says something that rubs you the wrong way, it’s because their viewpoint is different than yours. Practice respecting all people and you won’t be so easily annoyed.

I understand your point but FACTS don’t have a viewpoint. There is only true and false. I cannot respect someone giving false information.

Rebecca's point is valid in a normal reality. 20 yrs ago. Probably 10 yrs ago. But today there's virtually nothing coming from the figurative lips of the conservative side other than lies. That really is the fundamental issue. Lies, the inherent insult, the inherent debasing.

So, I guess the question is what to do about it? If 1/2 the country are idiots/liars, do you rally your team and hope the idiots/liars stay home on Election Day? Or, is our civic health worth efforts to respect, understand and persuade, even though that’s really hard to do?

The NYT's whole schtick of the last 20 years has been to divide us into as many small boxes as possible and then drive a wedge. Then decry the results.

Perhaps, instead of the hinted at false equivalency, the Times could point out that the Republicans are now an openly racist cult of sociopaths, and the Democrats are not.

The article makes “policy” sound minor & even arbitrary, but we’re talking about separating children from their parents en masse, banning practitioners of an entire religion from entering the country, inaction on climate change that will lead to mass displacement and death, etc.

And your response is the exact reason for the divide. These are serious, important issues and your need to mock and demean rather than engage in conversation is example A of why we are where we are.

Conversations are great. We can have one if you like. But the OP was being a hysterical nut. Twisting and manipulating with half teuths or outright falsehood. Such discourse should be mocked out of the public square. As it is not beneficial to anyone.
