A lawsuit accusing Harvard University of discriminating against Asian-American applicants will go to trial on Monday. It is widely seen as a referendum on affirmative action.https://nyti.ms/2yBZMGz

Republicans would love to eliminate any mechanism to remedy the history of discrimination against blacks (here in academic opportunities) by using the academic success of Asians to say that affirmative action is not needed.

I spoke in the rally today against Harvard, and we are not trying to get rid of affirmative action. We are trying to get rid of race being a factor in admissions. If we look back to the original text of affirmative action. It says race should not play a factor.

If race didn't play a factor, Harvard would admit only Asians and no black people, which is always the intent of the right-wing in this country. Your position is supported by the KKK. A more sophisticated approach is necessary, which you don't have the capacity to advocate.

This has to be one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever seen on twitter, which really is saying something.

Why isn’t there a focus on legacy students rather than affirmative action students. That’s where the unfairness happens.

No. They are not. If we are trying to correct for the historic and continuing institutional racism in this country, we need affirmative action as well as reparations.

What happened 400 or 40 years ago is preventing me from studying trigonometry and chemistry. I’m focused on being a rapper. I don’t value education, I value my street cred over getting good grades in school. It’s whitey’s fault I make poor choices.

Redlining, institutionalized racism, a lack of knowledge in the general public about privileges that certain ethnic groups have (looking at you). So yes, what happened all those years ago does affect the present. Societal norms of the past permeate societies of the present.

My thoughts as long as it was american blacks being discriminated against in schools admissions things was ok ,now that another race has spiken up its a big deal #it should have been a big deal from the beginning regardless of race

Blacks always get a pass on racism..... Asians only raw end. Get a clue ... in today's world the average black is more racist than the average white.

They’re not being taken off any points for being asian ... they’re looking at profiles holistically. while I agree some aspects of college admissions should be changed to benefit lower income minorities, there is no proof Asians are discriminated against in admissions !
